I covered my mouth laughing as I read this piece, because in you I have found a kindred spirit.

One of the very first albums I ever ran into the ground as a kid was Englebert Humperdinck's Greatest Hits. I don't even know where it came from. I found it. And I played it, to death. Years later, after idolizing Chaka Khan and Donna Summer and inundating myself in all manner of R&B, funk and hiphop, my first concert with a pack of friends (Black friends, mind you) was...DURAN DURAN's Seven and the Ragged Tiger tour. This is in what was once our nation's Chocolate City, blackity black ass DC.

We love what we love, and thankfully you and I have been bold enough to listen to it and claim it.

Now let me settle in and groove to some Culture Club...
