Navigating life’s wants and needs, without a net or a timetable
The images and headlines associated with the start of 2019 can turn you into a cranky, disagreeable sort, if you’re not careful. All this talk of “government shutdown without an end in sight” and notions of Congresspeople and 45 shrugging their way into bed each night certainly makes me irritable as hell. And I don’t even have a federal job.
But I know what those workers are going through, you betcha.
I freelance for my supper, and the financial landmines of my “lifestyle” bear a striking resemblance to what so many American families are dealing with right now.
An old adage says there are two certainties in life: death and taxes. I beg to differ. There are plenty more, when it comes to making payments: food, transportation, rent/mortgage, credit card and student debt. Shall I go on? While elected officials continue to collect their substantial salaries debating principles and ridiculous notions of border protection costs, everyday folks have cyclical payment schedules for all manner of expenses that don’t give a damn about morality and stalemates.
Whether you are driving your own vehicle or taking public transportation, cash money is required for insurance and gas or the fare you stuff into the collection box as you…
